Starting a new business is an exciting adventure
Starting a new business is an exciting adventure
Many people are struggling to find the perfect business idea, but here you are with a great business idea in your laps. Unfortunately, this is where it ends for most people – they get brilliant ideas, but they are unable to make it a reality – the hopes and dreams of starting a business die a natural death in their hands.
And there is another group that can successfully use the plans that they have to birth their businesses, but within a few years, everything comes to a standstill, or the whole company comes crumbling down.
According to statistical reports by Harvard Business School, 90% of businesses collapse within the first ten years; this means that 9 in every ten companies that starts today are doomed to collapse within a few years.
I have been a business consultant for more than three decades helping both women and men. During this time, I have seen a lot of businesses collapse for many avoidable reasons. I have also contributed to rescue a lot of companies from the ruins.
I decided to compile some of the best advice I have given to female business owners to get their businesses off the ground into a book.
The main focus of the book
Why is this book focusing on female business owners? I have carried through more than a hundred workshops and seminars about starting new businesses. I mostly start these meetings asking the audience what they think are the main obstacles and the most difficult threats when starting a new business. When I start this discussion, I am always observing what kind of participants are asking what kind of questions.
The answers are obvious. Most women want to learn more about how to get customers, how to optimize profit and how to set goals to make the business grow and achieve success both in their family life and in business.
I am hoping that the tips I dish out in the book would be able to help a lot of people, hopefully, both women and men, with good businesses ideas to start their businesses, and also help people with struggling companies to save their businesses from collapsing.
The three phases
I have structured the book into three broad steps with the first step talking about customer acquisition. This is perhaps the most critical step given that without customers, even the best product, best plan, best people, etc. wouldn’t make the business to succeed.
The second phase focuses on ensuring your business is profitable from the onset, as this will ensure you are in a position to operate in the foreseeable future.
Finally, the third step will center around planning various business processes to prepare yourself for massive success.
I purposely wrote the book in a manner that it can be applicable irrespective of where you live in the world. How does it do that? Well, the book does that by giving guidelines that will prompt you to take specific action to get the most relevant and recent information depending on where you live and your circumstances.
